Women’s Health & Embodied Healing

For thirty years I’ve been working in wellness.

It began at seventeen with shiatsu and meditation. Two practices that changed the course of my life. In the late nineties I was a partner in Melbourne's first vegan macrobiotic café, Wild Rice, where food as medicine was not yet widely recognised.

I spent fifteen years living and working in Istanbul, deepening my practice in shiatsu, qigong and somatic work. Time in New York brought nutrition, coaching and the rich threads of Chinese medicine and Taoist philosophy into the weave.

The work has never stopped growing.

And in recent years something has shifted in me and in the women I see.

My own perimenopause and menopause brought a clarity I did not expect. After decades of deep personal healing, this past chapter has been the most profound.

Now in my late 50’s a deepening acknowledgement that our health is not separate from our lives or our histories.

The compounded stress, the roles we carry, the grief we have not processed, the self we have quietly set aside to fit in, to prove ourselves, to matter.

It all lives in our body. There is no doubt about that now.

Something is moving in the collective. Women are finding their voices in their homes, their workplaces, their relationships and their own inner lives.

It is not always comfortable. But it is undeniable.

Families have become pressure cookers of hormonal and emotional intensity. Teenagers navigating identity, academic pressure and a world reshaped by technology that is unpredictable and fast. Parents running on empty, holding the household nervous system together while managing their own perimenopause, burnout and the grief of a world that keeps changing faster than we can integrate.

Everyone is full. Everyone is adjusting. And the uncertainty is not going away.

What I am witnessing in clinic is that the ancient practices of qigong, Chinese medicine, somatic awareness and breath are more relevant now than they have ever been.

Not as alternatives to modern life but as anchors within it.

What these practices cultivate above everything else is adaptability.

The capacity to be with uncertainty. The nervous system that can move through difficulty rather than brace against it.

When that shifts, the symptoms that seemed fixed begin to move.

This is not about perfection or performance. It is about developing a relationship with our body that is honest enough to acknowledge when things are not okay.

And trusting enough to do something about it.

MY TURNING POINT

The power of midlife. My own transformation.

Even after decades of inner work, it has been my life stages as a woman that have shaped the deepest parts of my healing.

From navigating adolescence and early trauma, to fertility and later the profound initiation of menopause, each stage has carried both challenge and wisdom.

The hormonal shifts, the unravelling of feminine socialisation, and the fierce invitation of these thresholds brought me into a place of self-trust and compassion I had always been seeking.

It has not been easy. The healing was real and raw. Now, when I look back at my younger self, I can speak with love:

I honour you. I love you. It is worth it.

And to all women, whether in your teens, your 20s, your fertile years, your postpartum seasons, or your menopausal transitions, I encourage you to speak to yourselves with the same compassion you longed for from mothers, guardians, and elders.

IT’S TIME TO BELIEVE

Your body is highly intelligent.

It is not failing you.

Every symptom such as painful cycles, emotional overwhelm, weight changes, insomnia, digestive issues, or nervous system stress carries meaning.

Instead of silencing them, it’s time to listen.

When we honour these signals with compassion and inquiry, not distain and hatred which we are taught to.

Our body has the potential to transform not only the symptoms but open into energy that has been laying dormant, often for decades.

The creativity and energy I have experienced and witnessed is profound.

This is possible for all body’s.
