The gift of Presence

We may underestimate the biological need we have for company, the proximity of another human.

With enhanced digital capacities all around, it is easy to feel as if we’re connecting by phone, text, &/or across all the digital platforms. What though of the warmth, the sensations of how a room feels different with the presence of others. Positive or negative. That we can feel this is one of the most human happenings.

The more time I spend in clinic, face to face with people, in their presence on the day and over time, developing a deeper capacity to listen, picking up on nuance in a safe space with these wonderful beings, the more blessed I feel.

I’ve chosen well. I love my job. To have a profession which requires connection was not conscious. But what a gift!

The studies are out. The more we have meaningful connection, the better our nervous system functions. If the nervous system is functioning well, then much of the organ systems are too, and we become a ‘onesie of wellness’.

All the acupuncture in the world may be helpful but if we are alone and isolated, our world is more limited and static.

Let us prioritise at least once a day connecting with someone, whether significant others, family (blood or chosen), or a stranger. Perhaps a person in need. The energy that is generated by giving, the giving of your own presence is profound. It doesn’t have to be a long time.

Quality over quantity.

Your presence is precious.

Enjoy your humanness.

With love, Anny x
