How Qigong Can Support You Through the Menopause transition.
Reclaim Connection, Vitality, and Power—Naturally
Menopause Is a Transition, Not a Crisis. But It Does Need Your Attention.
Many women describe perimenopause and menopause as a sudden shift—sleep becomes elusive, hot flushes appear out of nowhere, and moods can swing unexpectedly. It can feel like your body is betraying you, creating confusion and uncertainty.
From a Chinese medicine perspective, menopause is not a breakdown but a natural shift in energy—a transition into a new phase of life. It’s an inevitable part of the journey.
When we work with our bodies instead of fighting them, we can move through this transition with more ease. This phase can offer powerful insights, creating space to release what no longer serves us.
One of the most supportive tools I’ve found for this journey is Qigong.
What Is Qigong?
Qigong (pronounced “chee-gong”) is a gentle, meditative movement practice rooted in ancient China. It combines focussed, mindful movements with conscious breathwork, often integrating visual imagery to enhance the experience.
A regular Qigong practice restores the smooth flow of qi - your body’s vital energy.
Unlike intense workouts that focus on building muscle or improving cardiovascular health, Qigong nurtures your emotional balance by regulating hormones, and supports metabolic function.
For many of my students, Qigong feels like receiving an acupuncture treatment each time they practice—soothing, restorative, and healing.
The Chinese Medicine View of Menopause
In Chinese medicine, menopause is seen as a natural depletion of Yin—the cool, nourishing energy that keeps us grounded and balanced. As Yin becomes deficient, Yang (the hot, active energy) rises, leading to common symptoms like:
Hot flushes and night sweats
Anxiety, irritability, rage
Insomnia and fatigue
Brain fog and forgetfulness
Dryness (skin, vaginal canal)
Aching, inflamed joints
This is not a “problem to fix,” but rather a natural transition to support. Qigong helps restore balance by calming excess heat, circulating stuck energy or Qi, and gently rebuilding the Yin reserves that have been depleted.
How Qigong Supports You During Menopause
🧘🏽♀️ 1. Eases the Emotional Swells
In perimenopause, emotions can surge without warning—often thanks to stuck Liver Qi.
Qigong gives that rising heat a pathway to move.
Just a few minutes of intentional practice can take the edge off, helping you feel more grounded, less reactive, and more like yourself again.
It’s not about avoiding emotions—it’s about letting them move.
🌙 2. Sleep That Stays with You
In Chinese medicine, restful sleep depends on full Heart Qi.
Qigong won’t knock you out like a pill—but it gently quiets the racing mind, settles the Spirit, and invites the body into safety.
With regular practice, your nervous system remembers how to rest—naturally, deeply, and consistently.
🔥 3. Easing the Inner Flames
Hot flushes can feel like a fire alarm going off from the inside out.
Qigong won’t switch it off instantly — but over time, something shifts.
With regular practice, many women notice the heat softens, the waves settle.
Because you’re no longer fighting your body.
You’re listening.
And rhythm always responds better to respect, than resistance.
💓 4. Energy That Builds, Not Breaks You
You’re not just tired from today — you’re tired from years of holding it all together.
The kind of exhaustion no nap, coffee, or holiday can touch.
Qigong meets you there.
It doesn’t push — it invites.
With breath and presence, tension melts, stuck energy shifts, and suddenly… you remember what vitality feels like.
It’s not magic.
It’s ancient medicine.
It’s alchemy.
🤝 5. Reconnect with Your Body
If your body’s felt unfamiliar or unpredictable lately, you’re not alone.
Qigong gently brings you back into relationship, connection - without the fight.
Using your breath married with movement. Cultivating kindness and compassion.
It’s not about control, it’s about deep listening.
And that reconnection? That’s where your power is.
