What If Your Passion Is Buried Under Pleasing?
Rage Rising started because of the amount of anger I was working with in women, especially during perimenopause. Some felt it, but most of the time they didn't know it was there.
I grew up with two brothers. I was the youngest, and somehow the good girl stuck. I didn't speak up or argue, and I definitely didn't ask for much. Keeping the peace felt safer at home.
Recently I had a headache that wouldn't shift. I realised it had arrived just after an argument with my partner. Instead of pushing through, I gave it some space. I lay down, put my hands where it ached, and breathed. As I softened, I felt a resonance with a time when I was younger.
It wasn't a specific memory, more a feeling: a tightness in my jaw and throat that stopped me from speaking. I let myself feel it, and slowly I allowed myself to speak a few words out loud. They didn't make sense, and they didn't need to. My headache eased, and a clarity arrived.
The clarity stayed. In the days that followed, I felt the desire to move and to speak out loud. I could see what the argument had really been about, and I could talk with my partner with an ease I hadn't felt before. There was a kind of liberation through my spine and throat.
Now I understand more why so many women say "I'm not angry."
Most women don't arrive talking about anger. They come with headaches, pain, trouble sleeping, an active mind that won't switch off, hot flushes, a short fuse they apologise for. Underneath, very often, are the words they never said.
We've been taught that anger is violent and bad. Good girls don't talk back. So we swallowed it, hid it, or felt ashamed of it. But the Charge that protects us is the same one that holds our passion and inspiration. When we bury one, we bury the other.
Try this now
Place one hand on your belly and one on your throat. Take three slow breaths. Don't try to change anything, just notice what's there. Is there something you've been holding back?
This work isn't about digging into your past, but giving your body the space to breathe and be heard. We go gently, at the pace of your nervous system, without overwhelm.
You don't need to feel rage or anger. Frustration, numbness and exhaustion are also at play here.
If something here speaks to you, you can work with me in person at my clinic in Preston and at The Yin Palace gatherings in Melbourne, or online through my qigong community and Rage Rising. The Three Treasures Pathway is offered both in person and online.
