She Was Never Allowed to Feel This Much
I had a session that brought me to tears.
My client grew up around abusive men. Her mother tried to protect her, but her mother had trouble with her voice, she'd lived through the same thing.
Now this woman is raising her own daughter and she wants something different for her of course. She wants to be a role model, a strong advocate for women and self-care.
She's having trouble though. Now in perimenopause the rage, anger and irritation are intense. She's terrified of blowing up her marriage, her family, everything she's worked so hard to build.
What is so hard to see is the frustration is with herself.
"I'm so sick of this! Why is it still a problem? I thought I dealt with it in all the years in therapy."
That day, talking wasn't going to touch it.
She knew something else had to happen.
We worked with her gently and safely.
The energy was so tightly bound up in her body.
Energy is powerful and grips tightly.
The Liver and the Hun
This is the energy of the liver in Chinese medicine.
The Liver governs the smooth flow of Qi.
If you've been to qigong or yin yoga you know the liver channel starts at the big toe and rises up through the legs, pelvis, abdomen and ends at the ribs.
This channel regulates the pelvic floor and the breasts. It also has an internal branch that opens in the eyes.
When that flow is blocked, the channel itself carries the tension. This is why rage in this transition is never just emotional. It's physical, held in tissue, joints, fascia.
The Liver also houses the Hun, our spirit of vision and clarity, not just what the eyes see, but what we envision for our lives. When Qi moves freely through the liver channel, the Hun sees clearly too.
When it's blocked, that clarity clouds over. This is the brain fog and mixed thoughts so many women describe, and it's not separate from the rage.
It's the same congestion, held in the same channel, expressed another way.
This is how I'm working with these intense emotions in clinic. It's not psychology, it's recognising emotions are energy and all energy needs to move.
The work isn't calming the fire down. It's moving it on purpose, with intelligence and care, so it neither stagnates nor erupts without direction.
She left feeling lighter and brighter with more capacity to feel into her body. There's more to do but she's not as frightened to touch that knotted ball of fire anymore.
If something here speaks to you, you can work with me in person at my clinic in Preston and at The Yin Palace gatherings in Melbourne, or online through my qigong community and Rage Rising. The Three Treasures Pathway is offered both in person and online.
With Love,
